Waiting with Patience

Waiting With Patience

A Midnight Thought

There are moments in the early morning when waiting feels especially heavy.
The house is quiet.
The world is still.
And movement is not yet possible.

It is in those hours when everything slows down that waiting becomes personal.
Not something we talk about, but something we must live.
And it is often there, in the stillness, that the heart speaks the loudest.

This reflection was born on one of those mornings

Welcome, friends, to Breath by Breath With ALS.
You’re reading Midnight Thoughts,
where reflections rise in the quiet hours,
where faith meets waiting,
and where hope is found one breath at a time.

Learning to Sit With the Waiting

It is another early morning.
Though I long to rise from bed, that moment is still hours away.
While everyone else rests, I wait,
waiting until I can be moved to my chair.

Waiting has never come easily to me.
But when ALS entered my life and my strength began to fade,
I discovered something I hadn’t understood before.

Patience is not simply enduring time.
It is something deeper.

Patience is faith, choosing to remain when nothing is moving.
It is hope that stays seated when fear urges us to rush ahead.
It is love that refuses to surrender, even when answers do not come quickly

What Patience Has Taught Me

So I pray.
And I wait.

I wait for healing.
I wait for strength.
I wait for peace.

And while I would rather not wait,
I have come to trust that patience carries a reward,
one that only time, and faith, can reveal.

Waiting becomes bearable when faith gives it meaning.

A Promise for Those Who Wait

In the quiet, I listen for that still, small voice to speak:

“Be still and know that I am God.”

Scripture reminds us:

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their

strength;

they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.

Isaiah 40:31

What a promise this is.
Not that waiting will be easy,
but that those who wait on the Lord will be renewed, restored,
and given strength to press forward.

Waiting With a Different Heart

I still wait.
But now I wait with a different heart.

A deeper patience,
one born from learning what it truly means
to place my hope in God’s timing.

That kind of waiting brings peace.
Not because answers arrive quickly,
but because trust slowly replaces fear.

Peace grows when we stop fighting time
and start trusting God

A Quiet Invitation

If you are in a season of waiting,
waiting for healing, direction, strength, or clarity,
you are not alone.

Waiting does not mean God is absent.
Often, it is where He is working most deeply.

Sometimes faith looks like movement.
And sometimes, faith looks like stillness.

Thank you for spending these quiet moments with me.

And remember,
take each breath with hope.
Trust God’s timing.
You are never waiting alone.

Until next time, God bless.

You Still Have Me

You Still Have Me

A Midnight Thought

There are moments in the early hours of the morning when sleep fades and prayer begins.
When the world is quiet, the house is still, and the heart has space to wander.
It is often in those quiet hours when distractions fall away, that faith speaks most clearly.

This reflection was born in one of those moments.

Remembering the Blessings

Sometimes, in the early hours of the morning, I wake up to pray.
And in that quiet stillness, my mind drifts back through the years
to all the blessings I’ve been given.

I had more than I deserved.
A good job.
A beautiful home.
Family who stood by me.

Life was good—better than good.

I was able to travel, explore, and live in places I never dreamed I’d see.
Life truly was great.

The Year Everything Changed

Then came 2023.
The year everything changed.

That was the year I heard the words no one ever wanted to hear:

You have ALS.

In an instant, the life I knew, the life I loved, ended.

Within six months, I went from diagnosis to being unable to move any part of my body.
It felt like everything I had built,
everything I had cherished,
slipped away.

I remember thinking:

What do I have left?
I’ve lost everything
.

A Prayer in the Darkness

One night, as I lay awake in the darkness, I prayed, truly prayed.

“Heavenly Father,” I whispered,
I come to You broken.
I have nothing left.
This disease has taken everything from me.
All I have now are my thoughts.”

And then, in that deep stillness,
a quiet assurance settled over my spirit.

A whisper so gentle, so quiet—
yet powerful enough to silence every fear:

“You still have Me.”

What ALS Cannot Take

In that moment, something shifted,
not in my body, but in my soul.

Because the truth is this:

ALS can take away strength, movement, and independence,
but it cannot touch the presence of God.

It can change my life,
but it cannot change His love.

It can take away the things I once held tightly,
but it cannot take away the One who holds me together
.

A Promise That Carries Me

In the quiet, I remembered His promise,
a promise that carried me through the darkest moments
:

Isaiah 41:10

Fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, I will help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand

Living in a New Reality

So yes…
my life looks different now.
My body is weak.
My world is smaller.
My days are slower.

But my faith?

It’s stronger than ever.

What I’ve lost in strength has been replaced with something deeper,
a trust that wasn’t there before,
a peace that doesn’t depend on circumstances,
and a closeness to God I never knew I needed
.

The Assurance That Remains

That same still assurance,

the one that met me in the darkness,
reminds me every single day:

“You are not alone.
You still have Me.”

Those words don’t remove the struggle,
but they steady me in the middle of it.

They remind me that even when my body fails,
my faith does not have to.

If This Is Your Midnight Moment

So if you’re reading this right now,
and you feel like you’ve lost everything,
or the weight you’re carrying feels too heavy,

Hear this through my story:

Even when life breaks you down,
even when you feel empty,
even when everything else falls away,

You still have Him.

And sometimes,
that is more than enough.

A Final Midnight Thought

Thank you for sitting with me in these Midnight Thoughts.

If you’re awake tonight
and your heart feels heavy,
remember this,

When everything else feels stripped away,
when strength is gone and words run out,
God is still there.

And in the quiet,
He gently reminds us:

“You still have Me.”

If this reflection spoke to your heart,
please consider sharing it with someone who may need it tonight.
And if you’d like to continue these Midnight Thoughts,
I invite you to subscribe and walk this journey with me,

one breath at a time.

Out of the Darkness and into the Light

Out of the Darkness and Into the Light

A Midnight Thought

There are moments in the night when the silence feels heavy.
When the world slows down, and the weight of life settles fully on the heart.
It’s often in those late hours, when there is nowhere left to hide, that God speaks the loudest.

This reflection was born on one of those nights.

When Darkness Feels Overwhelming

When I was diagnosed with ALS, I fell into a deep depression.
I remember sitting alone in my chair, the room was dark, and so was my mind.

The darkness seemed to fill every thought.
I cried out into the night, “Why me?”
Tears came day and night as I whispered, “Oh God, this is too hard.”

My mind felt trapped inside a prison.
A body that no longer obeyed me.
It felt like solitary confinement
a dark, lonely cell with no clear way out.

"Sometimes the darkest place isn’t the room around us, it’s the thoughts within us.”

A Light Reaches In

But in the middle of that darkness, something changed.

A hand reached through, a whisper of light.
At first, it was faint.
Then it grew brighter.

As that light reached me, I felt a quiet reminder:
I wasn’t alone.

Even in the deepest pain, God was still there,
waiting for me to look up.

And in that stillness, I heard a gentle voice say:

“I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

The Light That Leads Us

Jesus said:

“I am the light of the world.
Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness,
but will have the light of life.”

John 8:12

Those words took on new meaning for me.

Little by little, the light began to grow.
Each prayer.
Each word of comfort is from a loved one.
Each sunrise I was blessed to see.

None of it erased the diagnosis.
None of it removed the challenges.
But it reminded me that darkness does not get the final word.

“Darkness doesn’t win when you let the light in.”

Living With ALS in the Light

I still live with ALS.
The challenges haven’t disappeared.

But I’ve learned something powerful:

Light doesn’t have to be overwhelming to be effective.
Even the smallest light can break through the deepest night.

If you are in a dark place right now,
hold on.
Breathe.

You may not see the way forward yet,
but that doesn’t mean the light isn’t there
.

A Quiet Invitation

If tonight feels heavy, you are not alone.
God’s light is still shining,
even when the night feels endless.

Sometimes faith is simply choosing to look up,
even when your eyes are tired from the dark
